We made it off the ship!! I feel like a kid leaving summer camp. We said good bye to all our new friends we met and all the staff we got used to seeing everyday. This ship, the Norwegian Viva, will be in the Mediterranean for the summer season. We got off the boat at 8:30AM and new cruisers got on just hours later. I am still amazed by how fast they can turn everything around and be out on the water to a new city with thousands of new passengers, in the same day. It blows my mind. I also can’t help but feel the new “campers” have stolen our ship. But alas, we move on to explore the city of Lisbon, Portugal.
These pictures were the hardest for me to choose from. The first photo from the collage below is the view right out our balcony window. We didn’t get very many hours of sleep on the last night so drowsily, I slid the curtains aside and I’m fairly certain I audibly gasped. I have tried to include a picture of the view out of our balcony at each port. A large amount of these photos feature shipping containers. It is not surprising that these docks are the only docks able to accommodate big ships. Understandably, very few ports have built docks exclusively for cruise ships. I was stunned by the beauty of the city across the street from the dock.
Walking the streets between these buildings did not disappoint.
We enjoyed multiple Pastel de Nata treats. They are delicious, custard filled bites, eaten best warm.
So much beauty.
On our trek up the hill to the castle, we came upon this sweet pup. She was running the poles lining the side of the street like an agility course. Weaving in and out, in and out. She made us smile.
A Saturday market and some castle walls.
The plazas of Europe. I just love them. Endless people watching entertainment. Beautiful fountains, buildings and a ground made into a mosaic. This is Rossio Square. These squares are meeting places. They are often the place of train stations and cafes. I encourage you to Google a city square you have been to or one you are curious about. A lot has happened here and been happening for centuries.
I had two days in Portugal. I am now in Edinburgh visiting my college roommate. I can hardly believe the fun isn’t over.
You are too good to only visit once Lisbon. See you soon.
love, em.
I think I will join you when you return to Lisbon! Wonderful summary and pics of this city, Em. 😊
